BJJ Women Only Self-defense Class
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) is a self-defense martial art of Japanese origin with adapted Brazilian techniques. BJJ uses levers, torsions, and pressure in order to force their opponent into submission.
Jū means ‘gentleness,’ and Jutsu ‘technique’ in Japanese, its creation origins from the battlefield or any confrontation a samurai faced upon losing his deadly weapons (swords, spears), he would need a weapon-less method of defense to defeat his ‘enemy’.
Much of the technique of BJJ revolves around taking the opponent down to the ground and grappling/wrestling to gain full control of the opponent. The physical benefits are huge and can be seen to help increase muscle strength because you are reacting to your opponent resisting movements.
The idea behind the combat sport is that someone of a smaller/weaker build can defend themselves against a stronger, physically bigger individual. Therefore, BJJ is especially beneficial for women of lighter builds.
We believe in the unification of the mind, body, and spirit as when they are combined, these focus on the common goal of taking down ones opponent.
We recently started a BJJ Self Defense class for women only. We wanted to promote women’s empowerment; therefore, the classes are free until further notice. We have had many people sign up for the classes and so far, it has been a success and we love to see it!
